today I watched god tv for an hour. i thought, "maybe this will help." I'm not saying it didn't help. I'm not saying it did help. what i'm saying is all or part of the following...
the evangelist said that words FRAME existence, frame your life. So if you say, "I am unhappy and will always be unhappy" then you'll be unhappy and will always be unhappy. there is some truth in this. for instance, i believe that negative mental states are addictive/addicting. that is my faith. also, positive mental states are likewise (theres an american woman who watches my words here and elsewhere and I want to reach out to her but I find words ultimately unfullfilling - should that be one l then 2 l's? not sure)
but that's not all. the evangelist went on to say that words have a life have a spiritual presence have a distinct being have a truth. so if you say, i am a complete prat surely enough you will be a complete prat. because i suppose what he meant was words spoken words are real have presence have a life outside of us and can influence our faith.
however de saussure spelling not right said that words are arbitrary said that words do not have any actual connection with reality such that if i say cat it is not an actual cat it is a sound in the mind representing the cat but the cat is entirely seperate so words in this sense have no magical power at all.
however if i say i love you or if i say you are special then these words are not purely arbitrary they have a meaning beyond the sound anunciation etc....
one problem. if i say god is good out loud i might be thinking god is a complete git but must i believe that because one thought was verbalised it takes precedence over another thought nonverbalised. wheres the magic in that?
